Alcohol Associated Liver Disease Study
Looking to cut back on your drinking?
Excessive alcohol use creates a direct and progressive pathway toward life-threatening liver damage.
This study is only at Charter Research’s location in Orlando, FL.
Chronic, heavy alcohol consumption is the leading cause of Alcohol-Associated Liver Disease (ALD), a spectrum of conditions including fatty liver (steatosis), alcoholic hepatitis, and cirrhosis. As alcohol is processed by the liver, it produces toxic chemicals and contributes to inflammation, leading to scarring (fibrosis) that impairs the liver’s ability to function.
GLP-1 treatments for weight loss have shown promise in reduction of liver fat associated with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). This trial will examine the effects of GLP-1s on treating the liver damage seen in patients with ALD, as well as its ability to reduce alcohol cravings.
Who is eligible?
You may qualify for this study if:
- You are 18-75 years of age.
- You have a BMI ≥ 25.
- You have a history of alcohol misuse for the prior 3 years through the time of screening, with an alcohol intake ≥ 3.5 standard alcohol drinks per day for males and ≥ 2.5 standard alcohol drinks per day for females, on average in the past year.
