FAQ

Clinical trials allow scientists to gain insights into possible treatments for specific diseases, such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s. Clinical trials help researchers collect reliable data to improve existing medications and to understand new medications, including their effectiveness as treatments and any potential side effects.

The entire cost of a clinical trial is covered by a study sponsor. This is why you and your insurance company are never asked for any payment. The study sponsor is typically a company or organization responsible for the funding the research, but does not conduct the research themselves. Sponsors can be pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology companies, government entities, universities, non-profit organizations, or other groups.

Clinical trials are one of the safest environments for testing new drugs. The whole clinical trial process is highly regulated by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). Every treatment and prescription medication you take or give to a loved one had to go through the clinical trial process before getting approved for use.

Important Note: While safety measures are in place, no treatment is completely risk-free. Potential side effects vary depending on the type of trial and the intervention being studied.

The drugs in a clinical trial are used to test their safety and effectiveness. They also help researchers identify any potential side effects.

During a clinical trial, you may be given a placebo and receive no investigational medication. If you do receive the investigational medication, it may provide you with some health benefit. Or it may not provide you with any benefit. You could experience adverse side effects from the investigational medicine, and sometimes these can be serious.

A placebo is a substance or treatment that appears to be a medical intervention, but isn’t. By comparing the results of the actual treatment group to the placebo group, researchers can isolate the true impact of the medication being tested. This helps researchers determine the effectiveness of the drug and check for side effects.

The chances of receiving a placebo vary depending on the trial. When talking with our care team about specific trials, this is a great question to ask.

Each study duration is different. A study can be as short as one or two visits to our clinic or be many years in length and include many visits. When deciding if a study is right for you, you can ask about the frequency of visits and length of each study.

Participating in a clinical trial is completely voluntary, so you are free to stop participating at any time, for any reason.

Participation in our clinical trials is always at zero cost to you. We will never request any payments from you or your insurance company.

You do not need medical insurance to participate in our trials. In fact, you will be compensated for your participation! The entire cost of the trial is covered by the study sponsor.
